Where we are today. It’s a glorious afternoon and we’ve sailed up to the top of this lake and are now to walk for an hour through the woods to another lake. There was a letter from Mum last night but we’ve had nothing but bulletins for a week. Love Helen

There was a letter today from Mum for which we thank her. The letter from Italy was from Temiyanke [International violinist] who doesn’t think he can manage a night with us but will meet me in Glasgow sometime to discuss it. He writes an awfully nice letter. Today we have been looking at a picture […]

Dear 3,
Another view of the Eibsee where we were yesterday. That white bit at the far end is the hotel - the only one on the lake - and we had lunch there. The mountain on the right is the highest in Germany I think but we hadn’t enough time to go up in the […]

This is the road they were finishing last year between Munchen and Salzburg. There are trees and shrubs planted on the grass in the middle but they don’t seem to have come up yet. Thank-you for the papers, you are keeping me well supplied with bulletins. Tonight we’re going to a Bavarian evening where they […]

Dear Miss Helen,
I thankyou for your nice letter. I regret not to be able to visit you personally because I am at time in the work service for half a year. On the backside you can see my camp. Best Greetings, your Gustav Kaneaur.

Have just got back from a serenade concert which was very good. I am glad that D got the opportunity of hearing one. I think tomorrow we are going to an open air performance of Sliants [???] Don Juan with a ballet out in the Hympaberg [???] grounds and that ought to be lovely. Yesterdays […]
