This is the last of the pictures I had of Hitler except a portrait one of him sitting in an aeroplane looking very pessimistic (the kind we see of him in the papers) so I’ll use up some of my views before buying any more of him. It’s not for lack of news that I’m writing pcs and such shorter letters now but because I seem to have much less time than ever during the day. We go out straight after breakfast and walk till lunchtime. And then out again immediately and walk till supper but we never seem to get tired. Miss D is great fun and has a grand sense of humour and it’s nice having a companion who sees the joke on everything. We get on very well together. She is 35. Love from Helen.

Isn’t this a lovely picture? They sell dozens of picture pcs of Hitler that we’ve never seen. The people really love him too, it’s not that they’re frightened to say they don’t but everyone obviously adores him. I’m sending a few pictures of him as I’m sure it’ll give you a different idea of the man. For myself, I’m completely in love with him! [this is NOT a view my grandmother now holds, however, it shows how effective the propoganda was at the time, a comparison she makes is “he was always photographed with children, just like that Diana woman…“] I bought another newspaper today, it looks about the best I’ve seen yet for olympic pictures and I’m posting it to you. I was cashing a cheque this am and the man in the bank gave me it to look at so I bought one for myself when I went out to send to you. I have a big 1/ magazine with pictures but I think I’ll bring it with me incase it gets spoiled. With best love from Helen.

Isn’t he nice? [please note: this is NOT a view my grandmother still holds by any means! but is interesting to note how the propoganda worked at the time] I saw him on the pictures yesterday, we saw the whole opening of the games at Berlin with the torch bearers and all the representatives of the different countries parading round the stadium. We also saw the American crowd training on the liner coming over and landing and driving through the streets and saw a great deal of the swimmers practicing. You’d have been very thrilled with it and I hope they’re running the film at home so you can see it. I wish you could have been at Berlin. Helen.

Dear Mum,
Thank you for the nice long letter that arrived air mail today. Isn’t this a lovely p.c. [postcard]? It shows you exactly how the people of Munich dress and this is what they all wear in town as well as in the country. The shorts are [???] leather, suede and velvet and the ties lacing up the side are coloured. You can see the socks I told you about on the boy on the left socks, he’s just for the [???] [???] on and has left the all the [???]. The hairbands the girls wear usually match their frocks, and you can see one of the [???] beautifully here.  The frock [???] it is a [???] type with a [???] blouse underneath. Aren’t they perfectly [???] clothes to wear every day? And they always look so fresh and gay too!
Best Love Helen.
